  • Chakra Healing Treatment

Seven is my lucky number. In honor of the seventh month, the seven chakras (as portrayed in several traditional systems), and the particularly potent full moon on the day I’m posting this, I’ve designed a new treatment.

It’s a remote Reiki session for cleansing, charging and balancing the energy centers.

I love Reiki because it is powerful, yet gentle, and never invasive. It always gives each client exactly what they need in that moment because it works with their bodies’ wisdom rather than attempting to impose some prescribed protocol.

By focusing in on chakra healing and removing the chatting element of a session, I’m able to offer this 40 minute treatment at only $77.

I recorded a six minute video to explain the how and why of remote Reiki for chakra healing. I could have gone on and on, but really tried to reel myself in to cover the basics. There’s a lot to be said about working with the energy centers and I’d much rather DO it than yammer on about it.

You’ll find buttons below for scheduling if it feels right for you.

  • Got stress? Fatigue? Anxiety? Overwhelm?

Don’t we all?! 21st century living isn’t for wimps. Between the toxins, the perpetual busyness, and the information overload, wellness requires some effort these days.

It doesn’t help that our nervous systems respond to deadlines, traffic, and emails from the boss with the same physiological response as if we were being chased by a tiger. All that adrenaline pumping in our veins and nowhere to go. We wonder why we feel anxious when we try to sit still and act normal, but our body is screaming for us to punch, kick, run, or hide under the table.

    Yeesh. It’s exhausting.

For most of us, chronic stress and go-go-go lifestyles are here to stay. Rather than bemoaning that fact or hiding our heads in the sand, we can acknowledge that this is less than ideal and take action to mitigate the damage.

That’s where Reiki comes in. It’s a holistic healing technique that calms the nerves, relieves stress and pain, and stimulates the body’s innate healing abilities. It’s powerful, safe, effective, and…

    wait for it…

Anyone can learn how to do Reiki.

Even better- you can use it for yourself anywhere, anytime.

While Reiki can indeed be shared with others, I see its most important use as a self-empowerment practice that allows you to actively contribute to your own wellness.

By “practice”, I mean it’s something that needs to be utilized consistently for the best results, like brushing your teeth or exercise. What better way to get daily deposits of universal life-force energy than to tap into the infinite supply and saturate yourself from top to toe?

Which is why I’m excited to announce my next Reiki 1 Certification course. This is an in-person training in my Mt. Airy (that’s a neighborhood in Philly) studio.

    Four Thursdays, noon- 2pm

    Feb 27, March 6, 13 & 20

(alternate date in case a class is cancelled because of snow- March 27)

This training does include how to give sessions to friends and family, but the foundation is using it as a self-care practice. You know, put your own oxygen mask on first.

You needn’t be psychic or spiritual. You don’t need to know anything about chakras or crystals or own a meditation cushion or yoga mat.

What it takes is curiosity, an open mind, and a willingness to follow through. The benefits come from the doing, not the learning. The class itself won’t change your life, but if you engage the tools I teach, well, get ready for the magic to unfold.

Investment = $300 with a $25 early bird discount if registered by January 31, 2025. Seats are limited. Literally- I only have 6 chairs, so if you want to join us, claim your spot now.

  • Happy New Year!!

For the past few weeks, I’ve been sitting with the question: what monthly special can I offer that will be most supportive for the most people?

A lot of ideas have come through, but mostly from my mind. I’ve been waiting for a response from my soul, which has proven itself to be the wiser guide.

    Finally, my instructions have arrived.

Make it easier. Offer a discount for Reiki sessions.

A 24% discount, to be precise, in honor of the new year.

If you find yourself feeling depleted, overdrawn, fatigued, anxious, overwhelmed, underwhelmed, stuck, weighed down, disconnected or otherwise different than how you’d like to feel, Reiki can help.

Book a remote or in-person Reiki session by the end of January 2024 to receive $24 off the normal rate.

(This does not apply to massages or Reiki-massage combinations. Those are more physically demanding and I am carefully navigating a sustainable work load for this body of mine.)

Reiki is a holistic healing modality that promotes stress and pain relief and cultivates optimal wellness by flooding the recipient with life force energy. Not just any ole life-force; spiritually guided life force.

One client describes it as a spiritual hug.

Most people report feeling deeply relaxed and restored and more like themselves.

If you’re wondering if Reiki can be helpful for whatever you’re going through, very likely it can. I use it in my own life for healing injuries and reducing pain (both physical and emotional), connecting with my intuition and creativity, metabolizing stress and the sense of utter dismay at the state of the world, cultivating hormonal balance, digestion and quality sleep, and maintaining my sense of humor along with impeccable discernment as a mature woman navigating the dating scene and urban traffic. It’s the foundation of my spiritual practice and the balm for everything that ails. It’s the primary reason people so often comment on my calmness even amidst the perfect storm that life often cooks up for me.

It is not a magic pill and will not miraculously cure a long-standing, deeply rooted imbalance in the course of an hour. Let’s be real. Nothing can do that! It can, however, break an stress/pain/suffering cycle, help motivate you to take steps in the direction you wish to go and give you the extra oomph to get started.

It works fantastically as a maintenance routine, but also serves as an emergency remedy when the sh*t hits the fan.

It’s my hope that this discount will provide an extra nudge for anyone who has been sitting on the fence considering a session or perhaps the means to do so.

  • Do you know about glimmers? It’s a new concept to me. I was at a sound healing recently and the maestro talked about grasping any glimmers that might pop up during the session.

I’m completely enamored with the idea of little things experienced throughout the day that can activate the parasympathetic (rest & restore) nervous system and fostering a sense of safety. They happen often, but because of the brain’s negativity bias (always looking for the potential dangers), they can go unnoticed.

I did some online research and found this interesting article I wanted to share. In my experience, it’s the simple, small things that we focus our attention on consistently that make the most significant and lasting changes in how we feel.

Glimmer, the Opposite of a Trigger

Do you know about glimmers? It’s a new concept to me. I was at a sound…

  • The word is getting out about this amazing healing modality and lots of people are curious and eager. I mean, what’s not to like about an infusion of life-force energy that can be directed towards healing any malady or supporting any goal?

Chronic pain, anxiety, fatigue, procrastination; developing intuition, patience, compassion, motivation, productivity; releasing stress, anger, grief, resentment; healing old wounds, psoriasis, digestive issues. These are just some of the reasons people come to me.

Taking the first step towards experiencing Reiki can seem daunting to folks. Just like anything new, there might be some hesitance. Often clients come for their first session and say something along the lines of, “I’ve wanted to try this for years and now I finally am.”

If you have a friend, colleague or loved one who fits in this category, consider gifting them with a remote Reiki session. It’s the most wonderful treatment! Folks can stay at home with all their creature comforts. They don’t even have to get dressed or comb their hair or navigate to an unknown place in the rain.

Remote Reiki sessions begin with a phone call to discuss the goals of the session. I’m a compassionate listener and it’s pretty difficult to shock me with statements like: I know it sounds weird, but…

I’ve pretty much heard it all in my 20 years of practice!

So, a brief phone call with a kind person (that’s me!) to clarify the intention. No judgment, no advice, no trying to turn the spotlight back on myself. Many people find this short conversation to be as healing as the treatment itself.

Then we disconnect the call so I can focus on the energetic connection and applying Reiki towards the goals we discussed.

That’s it! There’s nothing that needs to be done other than a willingness to receive the energy. Some people like to light a candle or burn some incense, meditate or listen to soothing music. Others just carry on about their day.

IMO, it’s the simplest, most user-friendly introduction into a brand new world. A world in which the flow of life-force can enhance and support any desire that is in one’s best interest.

Now, if $100 (that’s the minimum as it’s the cost of a session and I think it’s uncool to give a gift that requires the recipient to shell out their own money) is more than you want to spend, there’s nifty feature on the site that allows you to share the cost with others. You’ll see the “Group Gift Card” option on the first page.

A screenshot of the webpage. There are a wide variety of themes to choose from.

And if you’re thinking, wow, that sounds great, I wish someone would gift me a Reiki treatment, now is the time to share this valuable information with your inner circle. You can take the pressure off someone trying to choose the right gift out of an endless sea of possibilities.

If you’ve already received a gift and want to schedule a session, you’ll just need to send me a message. You can have a look at the online calendar to see what’s available if you like, but sadly the system won’t let you schedule it yourself. No worries, I can handle it from my end quickly and easily.

Gifts are easily purchased online and you can even decide when the email notification goes out to recipient. Supply is limited: I only offer as many as I can absorb into my schedule in a timely fashion. I don’t want anyone having to wait for months to experience their gift.

Certificates can be used for any service I offer, including coaching, in-person Reiki and massage. If you’re outside the Philly area, you might like to share with your recipient that you’re gifting them a remote Reiki treatment to avoid any confusion.

Feel free to message me with any questions.

  • Managing stress is my number one strategy for being happy, healthy, and creative. It’s my long-term plan for healthy aging and what keeps me sane in a chaotic world.

Let’s start with what I actually mean by “managing” stress. I’m not talking about avoiding it altogether. As if! While I do make targeted efforts to minimize external stressors (by saying no to voluntary tasks that don’t bring me joy and being mindful about the amount of sensory stimulation I expose myself to), it’s not possible to avoid it completely. Certain kinds of stress, such as some challenges and physical exercise are even beneficial.

I’m also not talking about tropical vacations or spa days. These may or may not be helpful in managing stress, but they are too few and far in between to be relied upon. If you experience stress on a daily basis, you need a tool in your back pocket ready to go at all times.

What I am talking about is working with the stress that occurs in your life to prevent the potential damaging effects on your body and psyche. It’s not so much the stress itself that’s the problem, but the way your body instinctively responds to it, specifically via the fight, flight, freeze, or fawn (or the 4 Fs) mechanism. When you get stuck in a perpetual state of hyperawareness and survival, you’ve got all the ingredients necessary for chronic pain, fatigue, tension, anxiety, depression, illness, and burnout.

Why? When your primitive brain perceives a threat, it responds by preparing to run away, attack, hide, or … (insert other survival strategy that would have made sense to a cave dweller, but is not so much helpful to a modern day person) to survive. It deliberately shunts life force energy to the extremities, the heart and lungs, and senses. Digestion, detoxification, cellular repair, elimination, fertility, sexuality, focus, clarity, creativity, and all systems that are not essential in a crisis go offline. It’s not a problem when this happens occasionally, but many of us live in this state of having nearly all our energy usurped for action that never actually occurs.

Learning how to activate your body’s natural antidote to the 4Fs will allow you to experience more ease, vitality, joy, and peace despite outer circumstances. You can learn to become the eye of the hurricane rather than reacting to every dumpster fire that those around you might be starting, fanning, or lamenting. (I’d enjoy having more company here in the eye of the hurricane! There’s plenty of room for you in here.)

Popular culture would have us believe that turning to alcohol, comfort foods or social media is such a remedy. This is a myth. While there’s nothing wrong with mashed potatoes, wine or Instagram, in general, these are tools for distracting ourselves and have absolutely zero impact (make that zero positive impact) on how your body metabolizes stress hormones. They might make you feel better for a quick minute, but the 4Fs remain unchanged.

Instead, I’m inviting you to try something different. Something somewhat radical. Something that will actually help you feel better, not just feel less.

    1. Notice. The first step is paying attention to your inner landscape, so that you can recognize when one of the 4Fs gets activated. This means slowing down, tuning in, and developing a relationship with yourself so that you can recognize when the survival urges kick in. I’ve yet to meet anyone who learned this growing up, so it will take a bit of practice. Believe me, having access to this early warning system is immensely beneficial.
    2. Breathe. Breathing into your belly and gently extending your exhales sends a signal to the nervous system that you are safe. Adding an audible sigh is even more potent. Unless you’re in a business meeting, that is! Getting fired is unlikely to help your stress level.
    3. Shake. This is what animals do in nature, but generally we humans are too self-conscious to allow this impulse to manifest. It might not be appropriate in the situation you find yourself in, but as soon as possible, make your way to a private space, such as the restroom, and shake it out. Start with jazz hands, turn it up, let that movement spread to your arms, into your shoulders, neck and head. Let it flow down into the hips, let your knees jiggle, and and maybe lift and lower your heels, letting them thump on the floor. Keep breathing and keep shaking as long as time allows or until you feel a shift in your body.

Once you’ve turned off the alarm bells, it’s much easier to move to the next stage: prevention. Now that you have a strategy in place for dealing with stress in urgent situations, I’d suggest a follow-up; creating a daily practice to build up your resilience, a preventative strategy to minimize the amount of time you need to recover from an activated 4F situation. There are lots of ways to do this, and the only “right” way is the one that works for you and is enjoyable enough to keep you coming back.

Massage, Reiki, meditation, mantra, yoga and nature are tools that give me tremendous benefit. You might already have some tools ready to go or a list of things in your head that you’ve heard about and would like to try. Once you get out of the chronic survival mode that 21st century living seems to inspire, you’ll have a much better chance of following through and implementing any plan you make.

If your plate is overflowing and you just want to lie back and receive some nourishment and healing, that’s exactly what I do for my clients. Reiki and gentle massage are both incredible remedies for chronic 4F activation. You could schedule a remote Reiki treatment from anywhere in the world or a Reiki-massage or in-person Reiki in Philadelphia if you’d like some support managing stress and moving beyond survival mode. Or get on the mailing list to be informed about upcoming classes and learn how to heal yourself with Reiki.

Three Simple Ways to Manage Stress

  • For the past few months, I’ve been making videos about how I approach common maladies with holistic and energetic techniques. Life gives me consistent material and I simply record what I’m doing for myself. There are a number of very simple tools that can be used for a wide variety of challenges.

    Awareness

    Compassion

    Slowing down

    Reducing unnecessary stimulation

    Breath

    Sound

    Movement

    And my all-time favorite, Reiki

If you experience overwhelm, you can get relief in just a few minutes. Better yet, you can minimize overwhelm’s frequency, duration, and intensity by aligning your behavior with your values and vision and regulating the nervous system.

The most effective and affordable approach I know it to learn how to give yourself Reiki treatments. If the do-it-yourself suggestion triggers even more overwhelm, consider booking a session. Relief is just a few clicks away.

Feeling Overwhelmed? I am, and here’s how I’m working with it.

For the past few months, I’ve been making videos about how I approach common maladies with…

  • I had a heck of a dream in the wee hours that triggered some old emotional wounds. I woke up suddenly and unexpectedly with strong feelings of shame, hurt, and resentment coursing through my veins. Not the most pleasant wake-up call! And after an hour of tossing and turning, I decided to claim it as an opportunity for healing.

As I sat in meditation, I suddenly felt that my apartment was too small, much too small to contain these very big feelings. I hastily rearranged my day, threw my travel mug and a few hard-boiled eggs in my backpack, dug out a scarf, hat, and gloves and headed to the creek.

There is something quite magical about being near running water for me. I find it much easier to exhale. And exhales were what I needed to regulate my nervous system that was edging into the red zone. I knew that if I wanted to have a chance to be with the emotions, I needed to stay out of fight-flight-freeze activation. Once that alarm gets pulled, it takes time for me to reset and dig myself out of survival mode.

The chilly air (hooray for autumn!), the brisk walk, and the majesty of nature all supported my goal, and I was able to sit and breath by the water, allowing the emotions to flow. To my surprise, the entire episode passed pretty quickly because I gave it the space it needed. In the past, this level of intense upset would have sidetracked me for days. Today, it was more or less settled in an hour. I was hope in plenty of time for my 11am meeting, which turned out to actually be at noon, so I had an hour to spare and try to capture my experience in words.

    Calm returns!

It’s really helpful to have a plan for moments like these. Rational thinking often isn’t available when we get triggered, and it can be hard to figure out a strategy when we’re IN it. Knowing what helps calm you down in advance can be a blessing. For those on the inner journey, doing the work of excavating the caves or exploring the labyrinth, it’s essential.

Movement, sound, breath, nature, and prayer are all tried and true emergency responses. Taking a few minutes on a daily basis to design and refine a protocol when you’re on even ground is a solid step towards saving time and distress when stuff comes up. Building on a foundation of mindfulness and compassion can provide advance warning and the motivation to face challenges head on.

If you have Reiki superpowers, you can use them to help yourself stay centered and willing to meet challenging emotions. For me, it helps to take the edge off and more easily navigate upheaval. The more calm I am, the more likely I am to find the courage and energy to stay put rather than turning to a distraction for artificial relief. It’s a simple as placing a hand on the belly and the other on the heart and thinking “Reiki on”. Let the energy flow and support you on your journey.

    Give it S P A C E !!!

  • There’s nothing quite like a global pandemic to test our capacity to remain present, centered, and grounded! It’s the perfect recipe for triggering the fight/flight/freeze mechanism. Yet in this case, there is nowhere to run and nothing tangible to fight. The weapons we’ve been given (soap, masks and isolation) are completely inadequate to satisfy our biological urges to attack, run, or hide. The trouble is that the fear of this virus triggers a physiological response that is identical to facing a bear in the woods or a mugger in an alley. So what to do when the adrenaline is pumping and we can’t leave the house? Reiki can take the edge of this feeling of overwhelm or constriction and help reset the system to a place where digestion and assimilation, detoxification and cell repair, productive thought and well-being may flourish. More importantly, it can help prevent us from tipping over the edge into the danger zone. Reiki treatments, received either from yourself or a professional, activate the relaxation response in the body. The more time we spend in this state of ease and peace, the more it becomes our home base and the easier it is to notice when we are slipping into hazardous territory. This state of hyper-vigilance that is being promoted by current events has the potential to be incredibly damaging to our health, especially given its duration. Our systems are not built to withstand chronic exposure to the fight/flight/freeze response. It is simultaneously draining our energy and emotional resources and overwhelming to the endocrine, muscular, cardiovascular, and nervous systems. The results can be a paradoxical mixture of feeling wound-up and exhausted, yet unable to rest or focus. UGH! Reiki has helped me keep an even keel throughout these past three months of quarantine. Only twice have I tipped over the edge; both times related to extreme external conditions on top of the ongoing crisis. While I don’t have a perfect record at keeping calm, I am delighted to say that my recovery was speedy as I was able to recognize exactly what was happening and to saturate myself in healing, harmonizing life-force energy immediately. The uncertainty of how this pandemic is going to influence our future has me yearning to share the gift of Reiki with others. While I’ve been eagerly awaiting the green light to return to my office and begin teaching as I used to, it’s unclear when I’ll be able to do that.
