long distance Reiki

  • Yesterday I lost hot water.

(Isn’t it amazing that such a thing as hot, running water is even possible? It’s easy to forget what a blessing this truly is. Until it disappears, that is. Then it becomes very apparent!)

Before that happened, my busy day got rearranged, leaving me with a few spare hours in the afternoon. Curiously, I had a nudge to shower and wash my hair. Weird. I usually shower before bed and wasn’t planning on messing my masses of hair, but whatever. I’ve learned to listen to the nudge.

As luck would have it, I was in the shower, longer than normal as hair washing is a bit of an ordeal when you have lots of it, and the water began to cool.

I was in the right place, at the right time, doing the right thing to notice that there was a problem.

Coincidentally (ha! I don’t believe in coincidence), a part that was needed for my refrigerator shelf that had collapsed earlier in the week (was this all part of the plan? 🤔) just arrived and my landlord was sending over the handy man to replace it shortly.

We chatted about the water and he turned up the temperature on the heater. This made no sense to me- clearly the heater is defective, it didn’t just turn itself down mysteriously. But these are the steps you need to go through as a renter.

Unsurprisingly, there was no change. But since I got my report in when I did and got myself showered in advance, there is no actual problem. Just a repair that needs to happen.

And that’s scheduled for today, most likely when I’m at work, meaning minimal disruption for me.

This story doesn’t really merit telling as nothing really happened. And, for me, that’s generally how it goes. When I follow my guidance, there are no big dramas to report. Things don’t always go as planned, but they work out one way or another, without a big production.

So next time you have an urge to do something out of the ordinary that might not make sense, consider what future inconveniences you might be avoiding.

The trick is in slowing down and paying attention so the messages can get through the mental clutter. If you like hot showers, maybe it’s time to start your intuition training!

Reiki can help calm the monkey mind and connect you to that inner voice. If you don’t have the pleasure of living near Philly, there are always remote sessions, which are an amazing way to get synched up with your inner wisdom.

I’ve compiled all the intuition chronicles into one place for your convenience. They are not linear, so I’d suggest letting your inner compass guide you to the article that is most aligned with your current needs.

  • It’s easy to think that we’re all at the mercy of invading microbes, but it isn’t that simple. There are so many factors that influence our body’s capacity to defend itself against disease.

Some of the factors fall under our personal influence. And this is where our power lies.

True, I cannot completely control my environment and circumstances, although this doesn’t prevent me from doing my best. Just because I can’t achieve 100% success doesn’t mean I sit on my hands and do nothing.

My definition of empowerment is doing everything that I am able to cultivate the life I desire. If I want optimal health, I’m going to address every factor that is within my power.

While the chaos happening in the world is beyond my scope of influence, I do have a fair amount of sway over how it lands in me. I can’t escape stress entirely (although I take a good stab at minimizing it as best I can!), I am all about metabolizing it so it doesn’t leave me in a state of chronic fight or flight.

Not only is that uncomfortable given the resulting tension and anxiety, but living in survival mode drains the body’s resources, rerouting energy that would otherwise be used to keep ourselves healthy.

Sure, there are supplements you can take to boost the immune system. If you’re forever in super-stressed-out mode, though, your digestion and assimilation is impaired and you won’t be able to absorb them and they won’t be particularly effective.

There are tons of ways to address chronic stress. My favorites are spending time in nature, bouncing on the rebounder, laughing, meditation, tai chi, mantra, and Reiki. These practices all soothe my nerves and help me to move the energy so it doesn’t get stuck in my system.

So before you go spending a small fortune on vitamin C and such, find a way to release the tension held in your body and cultivate an internal sense of peace and safety so your nervous system can relax.

If you’d like some support, I’ve created a remote Reiki treatment exactly for this.

    Stress and the Immune System

It’s easy to think that we’re all at the mercy of invading microbes, but it isn’t…

  • The school year has already begun here in Philly. And summer is definitely winding up.

While these things aren’t a surprise, many of us can use some support transitioning from one season to another to maximize wellness.

With the cooler temperatures and shortening days, our bodies are challenged to find a new equilibrium.

For those of us who are students, teachers or work for the school system, or have one of these in their lives, there can often be extra stress as new routines are implemented.

Add to that the germ factories that pop up when kids gather together, it’s a common time of year for illness to thrive.

Just because a bug is going around doesn’t mean you need to catch it!

It’s the perfect time to make yourself inhospitable to all unwelcome guests, bacteria and viruses included.

I’m launching a campaign of unavailability for invading microbes by offering an immune boosting remote Reiki special.

I’ve made this is as accessible as possible so you can get a hefty dose of life-force energy and give your body a jumpstart to face whatever cooties lurk around the corner.

This is a 40 minute remote Reiki session focused specifically on your immune system for only $77. I’ve trimmed down the duration by eliminating the pre-session phone call to save you some cash. And since you needn’t go anywhere for the appointment, it’s super easy to receive the healing energy with minimal effort.

There are countless ways to boost your immune system. Resting at home while at getting an infusion of stress-reducing, immune boosting Reiki might just be the simplest, most effective and most enjoyable.

  • Holistic healing means addressing all the various parts of ourselves, including our emotions. Even the ones that are uncomfortable, unpopular and chaotic convey messages that support our overall wellbeing.

Often when I bring this up, I meet resistance, even in people who are engaged in healing work. Cue glazed eyes and impromptu change of topic.

Most of us have been conditioned to avoid expressing our feelings so we don’t make others uncomfortable and are well practiced in the arts of suppression and numbing so we need not deal with the messy nature of feelings.

As a result, the unexpressed emotions get frozen in our systems, blocking the flow of life-force energy while also lingering like a powder keg, just one errant spark away from KABOOMING.

It’s not a good system for creating a healthy, productive life or intimate relationships.

It seems to be a big secret that it doesn’t have to be this way. Maybe that’s because emotional suppression is a great cash cow for the pharmaceutical and alcohol industries?

In between stuffing it all down and erupting at the worst possible time is alternative approach, one I would describe as more mature and effective.

It takes a fair amount of compassion, courage and curiosity to turn towards our feelings, both those that are unfolding in the moment and those stored in our archives, but it’s the only way to reclaim wholeness.

We aren’t whole if we reject any part of ourselves, and that includes our emotions.

Ugh. How inconvenient! Sorry, not sorry, there’s no skipping over this.

I’ll add here that feelings need to be witnessed and felt, not rationalized, analyzed, figured out or otherwise compartmentalized. This is a huge, sneaky bypass attempt. I say “attempt” because it doesn’t work- this supposed bypass just leads to a parking lot where you sit and stew in perpetuity.

Thinking about your feelings is not the same as feeling them. Believe me, I tried. For almost a decade, I thought I was doing emotional healing work by sensing and naming my feelings, but I was still avoiding the painful, messy experience of anger, grief, disappointment and fear. Guess what? Those energies remained active within me, waiting to be felt, growing impatient and more and more disruptive over time.

Let’s take anger as an example. When I get angry and suppress it, it lives on within me, eating me up on the inside, leaking out sideways as passive aggressive behavior and sarcasm, or exploding outwards, causing collateral damage when the pressure exceeds my capacity for containment.

    I’m sure you’ll agree that’s not healthy.

Don’t think that I’m saying you shouldn’t get angry! I’m not. First of all, I can’t tell you how you should feel. Second, there are loads of reasons to be angry. Anger, rage even, is justified sometimes. It’s a sign that a boundary has been crossed and perhaps that some sort of action is needed to protect our values, if not our safety.

So if you don’t want to store anger and you can’t avoid it altogether, then you must need to hurl it back to the person or event that activated it?

Nope. I’m not saying that either. As you likely know, impulsively reacting in the heat of anger can also have harmful consequences.

I’m suggesting a more masterful, mindful approach. One you may not have even knew existed.

You can metabolize that anger in private, without involving anyone else, including the activator of that anger.

Which doesn’t mean you never need to have a conversation with a coworker or partner about crossed boundaries, but doing the inner work first gives access to our inner wisdom and power so we are more likely to remain connected with our values and be heard because we haven’t just called someone a big fat stupidhead and run off sobbing. Don’t look at me like that- you know exactly what I mean!

Reiki is tremendously helpful for doing this work. It helps me find the motivation and courage to dive in, the clarity to recognize what needs to be done, the energy to stay with it, the compassion to prevent self-condemnation or blame.

If you’re looking for some support with metabolizing your emotions, I have a few different suggestions to offer. It depends on how much you want to participate.

If you are willing to witness and allow feelings to emerge and be felt, Reiki sessions can help. This is a long-term project, especially if you’ve been accumulating painful emotions for an entire lifetime, but it is doable with a commitment to showing up on a consistent basis.

You could take a Reiki class and learn to give yourself daily treatments as your primary strategy or as a supplement to receiving sessions from a professional. This is more affordable, as you’ll be doing a significant part of the work yourself.

If you’re stuck and floundering, it might help to have a Reiki+Coaching session, where I can shine some light into the shadows where you’ve stored the dark stuff. This will only work if you’re willing to witness what’s there, don’t project your anger onto me and truly want some help getting started addressing your issues.

If you’re wanting to go on pretending that your emotions are not wreaking havoc from the sidelines, I recommend never getting a Reiki session. Reiki is always working in your highest good and is not going to allow you to continue storing toxic waste in your psyche and body. There are plenty of ways to avoid your feelings- you only need to watch TV for ten minutes to see one of them displayed.

If you want to rebel against the repressed/suppressed status quo and activate the full flow of life-force available to you, I do hope you’ll join me in one way or another and let Reiki do it’s magic on your behalf.

Healing “Negative” Emotions. Hint: there’s no such thing!

  • Reiki for Whiplash

In the past week, I’ve seen 3 clients who are recovering from car accidents and the resulting injuries. Whiplash, neck pain, brain fog and headaches often go hand in hand to create suffering that ranges from uncomfortable and annoying to downright debilitating.

While I’ve worked with whiplash and co. quite a lot over the years, this clustering of clients makes me take notice. I suspect there are more people out there who can benefit from what I have to say.

The body has an innate ability to heal from acute injuries such as this. Yet, this particular group of maladies can linger indefinitely despite getting immediate and ongoing medical attention.

I believe it’s because of the damage to the emotional body and strong feelings of being unsafe in the car or near cars, and how the body tenses up reflexively, attempting to protect from potential harm.

Alas, this protection only adds to the suffering, causing the muscles in the neck and shoulders to lock up, putting pressure on nerves and diminishing blood flow to and from the head. Which is quite problematic as I’m sure you can see.

Treating the muscles can provide relief until the next seeming “threat” causes the overactive defense system to tense, activating the whole cascade of physiological responses.

Chiropractic adjustments tend not to hold because the muscles keep pulling the bones out of alignment, sometimes coming into contact with nerves and triggering a pain-tension-more pain cycle.

Until a sense of safety is reestablished on a somatic level, the loop tends to continue and suffering lingers. By “somatic”, I mean a felt sense of safety. Feeling safe and not just thinking about it.

While our sympathetic nervous system responses are great in times of crisis, they can get stuck in emergency mode, pulling the fire alarm when there is no fire, just a small puff of smoke from the toaster.

We need to speak directly to the body and that requires a compassionate presence, gentle touch, patience and a slow, steady pace. I approach whiplash clients the same way I would a feral cat. Cautiously, with no sudden moves and a soothing voice.

Reiki is a brilliant remedy for this conundrum as it both activates the body’s relaxation response (the antidote to overprotective fire alarms) and floods the system with healing life-force energy.

It encourages the muscles to relax, not because they are pummeled into submission, but because when the body feels safe, there is no cause for undue tension. This allows blood flow to normalize, proper oxygenation of the brain and removal of cellular waste from the head and neck.

It’s a way of working with our biology and instinctive responses rather than trying to override them. The former can succeed with consistency, while the latter is doomed to fail.

Once the hyper-vigilance and pain start to diminish, we can then work on the fear that is so common when clients get back in a car or walk along a busy street and deactivate the startle reflex.

One of the most significant benefits of Reiki is that it can be administered remotely, so the recipient need not drive to a session if they are unwell, unwilling or without wheels.

If you’ve been suffering from whiplash and its unpleasant effects, I hope this information is helpful for you. There are numerous ways to work on releasing trauma from the nervous system, but Reiki is the one I know to be both safe and effective regardless of the severity of injuries and the other treatments and medications taken.

I think yoga nidra would also be helpful if you’re looking for a DIY approach. You can find many guided sessions on the free app Insight Timer.

  • Relaxation as a Portal to Healing

Modern medicine is finally starting to recognize the detrimental effects that chronic stress has on our health. Physiologically, it’s clear that living under a cloud of too much to do, too many to care for, too little support and too few resources is a recipe for illness.

We know that the fight or flight response helps in an emergency situation, but when triggered 10 times each day before breakfast, it inhibits the immune system. It reroutes energy that would ideally be used for detoxification, digestion, assimilation of nutrients, cellular repair, creativity and focus and leaves us feeling fatigued, anxious, tense and stuck.

Activating the relaxation response is the foundation of the work I do. The number one thing clients say to me after a session is, “I feel so relaxed.” Or some variation of that. Sometimes it’s, “I didn’t know it was possible to feel so relaxed.”

    Fantastic!

And then people generally return to their default patterns which generally do not preserve this relaxation.

I’m not pointing fingers here. We live in a world that promotes stress and busyness as markers of value and dismisses rest, relaxation and listening to the body’s cries for help as weakness. It’s totally understandable that most of us never learned how to relax, why it’s so important or how to keep it once we’ve gotten a taste.

If you get your car detailed, it will look great at first. How long will it last? Well, that’s up to you, isn’t it? It could be a minute or a month, maybe even two, depending on how you use it and your habits.

Same goes with relaxation. There is no one application that is permanent. It’s something that needs to be cultivated. There isn’t a “one size fits all” way to do that, though.

For those who are primed to change their habits and commit to a different way of interacting with the world, a treatment can be a jumpstart into their new routines.

Others will need consistent treatment until they find their footing and can build and maintain their routines.

Others will see a monthly treatment as ongoing support for themselves and all the care they offer to the world.

Others don’t even know where to begin. If this is you, I commend you for reading this far and being willing to consider what might be very much out of your comfort zone.

If your comfort zone has gotten too restrictive and you’re ready to expand it, I’d suggest trying my Reiki + coaching treatment and we can have a chat about small, simple actions you can take as well as fill up your tank with healing life-force energy.

Wherever you are, I’m here to help. There’s no need to worry that you’re too stressed or too anything or not enough of some other thing. We all have to begin our healing journey from where we are. Rather than bemoaning our starting point we can instead use that energy to step in the direction we’d like to go.

Today’s a good day to take that first step, don’t you think?

  • Cultivating Inner Freedom

We’re approaching Independence Day here in the U.S. While I’m not much interested in parades, day drinking or fireworks these days, I do like to honor the spirit of the holiday.

    Freedom.

It’s buzzing in the microcosm and I’m going to take full advantage, bringing that energy into my microcosm.

Much of what inhibits personal freedom can be addressed from within.

Outdated coping mechanisms and unhealed wounds can cause behavior that is not aligned with our intentions.

Limiting beliefs absorbed in childhood can diminish self-worth and cause us to expect less from life than what is actually available.

Habitual thought patterns and addictive tendencies can keep us stuck.

Addressing all of this begins with awareness, compassion, curiosity, and the willingness to choose differently.

When you feel into the intention of experiencing more freedom, what stands in the way? When you feel into that obstacle, what lurks beneath it? And beneath that?

Keep going and I’m willing to bet that you arrive at a fundamental disconnection from your essence and the divine nature within you.

One simple remedy is to place a hand over your heart in a gesture of loving kindness and to speak to yourself using the words you’ve always longed to hear.

I see you. I’m here with you. You’re doing great. You’ve got this.

Find that words that resonate deeply and really drink them in.

Follow it up by repeating “freedom” as a sacred mantra. Let the frequency of freedom vibrate within you and spread throughout your entire being.

Make this a daily practice. Repetition is key. Healing is a process and requires devotion and stamina.

    You are worth the effort.

If you have access to Reiki superpowers, absolutely turn them on for this simple healing ritual.

If you’d like support for this endeavor, or whatever you’re working through, I’m just a few clicks away. If you want to go all-in, I have one opening for a 5 session Reiki+ intuitive coaching package.

  • Breaking Unhelpful Patterns with Reiki

Quite frequently people who come to receive a Reiki session report feeling stuck. They want to let go of an emotion, thought, or behavior that seems to be holding them down or holding them back, but don’t know how. I think most of us can relate to this- I sure can!

Reiki has helped me to let go of resentment, to forgive myself and those involved in numerous upsets, to release grief that had lingered way past its shelf life, and to transmute cravings for unhealthy foods, and escape a wide variety of coping mechanisms. I’ve witnessed it do all this and more for my clients.

Flooding the energy field with Reiki helps us to rise above the ego-mind and to align with the higher self, that part of us which is eternal and unchangeable.

From this perspective, we have a better view of unhelpful patterns and the thoughts and beliefs that hold us hostage.

Being immersed in the flow of spiritually-guided life-force energy helps us to feel safe, accepted, and more at ease.

This sets the stage for the type of deep inquiry that can lead to lasting change. From this sacred space of realized wholeness and empowerment, we are able to create shifts that support the changes we desire in our lives.

And yet, it is really up to each of us to make those changes if we expect to see lasting change.

Reiki is indeed a tremendous support in this process, but it is not the process itself. It is not a magic elixir that enables us to sit back and watch as our world morphs into something more desirable.

The thoughts we think contribute to our future and also affect our ki (life- force energy). If we wish to improve our lives, it is essential that we take responsibility for becoming aware of how we continue to contribute to our troubles, either consciously or unconsciously. Reiki can help us do that (indeed it is a huge help in that department!).

The work of partnering with clients who want to go to the next level and get off the merry-go-round entirely is my real passion. So much so that I developed a Reiki + Coaching combo for those who want to do the necessary inner work that leads to transformation.

Finding the places (often thought patterns, outdated coping mechanisms, old protective strategies, or inherited beliefs) where people get stuck and helping them get unstuck is a true joy. It involves a more active treatment where the client participates in a dialog exploring resistance to moving forward in addition to the usual passive practice of receiving the healing energy.

Now this process is not for everyone. Examining one’s shadow can be uncomfortable and requires a great deal of courage. If you’re seeking a path to healing old wounds in order to recreate a life based on peace, love, and joy then my Reiki + Coaching treatment just might be the technique to help you along the way.

    Learn more here.

I also offer a 3 session package at 10% off the individual rate, good for two months from the date of purchase and a 5 session package at 15% off, good for three months. Availability is limited. Packages are a great way to commit to doing the work. If you’re interested, please contact me to briefly share your goals and I’ll ask a few questions to see if we’re a good match.

  • Common replies I hear when I tell a client that their Reiki or massage treatment is over:

    “That went by so fast!”

    “The shortest hour ever!”

    “Already?”

    And my all-time favorite?

    “Nooooooo!”

It’s not that I’m cutting sessions short; truly an hour has passed, but it often doesn’t seem that way because in a relaxed state, time isn’t linear.

Many people experience altered consciousness during a session. Not quite asleep, not quite awake, someplace in between.

I suspect some enter a delta or theta brainwave state. This is the zone where deep healing happens.

In the in-between, minutes don’t matter, nor do they tick by in the way we usually experience them.

I’m usually in a flow state while providing sessions, so I have to keep an eye on the clock because time is different for me too.

Time might be relative in the treatment room, but that doesn’t make it any less valuable. Please believe me when I say that nobody is playing tricks with the clock!

You get the full benefits of a session, even if you’re asleep or in-between. Maybe even more as the healing can bypass any resistance from the conscious mind.

Time might be relative in the treatment room, but I can say with 100% certainty that when that happens, so does healing.
